Z52_2862 - Approaching Whitby harbour

            Taken from the West pier extension at Whitby, looking back towards the town, with the Church of St. Mary and Whitby Abbey on East cliff overlooking the harbour ad the Estuary of the River Esk
The extensions were built partly to alleviate the problems of a whirlpool which prevented larger ships from entering the harbour in certain conditions.
