08662_1975_08_Swansea_A3_800dpi

            Dawn has broken but the sun has still to rise above the horizon to cast its warming rays on one of the six Class 08’s at Swansea East Dock, 24th August 1975. The six Class 08’s were 08662 seen here and 08577, 08656/58/59/60 and gives an indication that the docks were still receiving volumes of rail traffic as late as 1975 that required up to six pilot engines.
 
The original image is a rather poor under exposed Orwochrome UT18 transparency taken using a Haminex Compact non SLR camera. Following some not insignificant work with todays technology a passable black and white image has resulted.

Locomotive History
08663 was built at Horwich Works as D3829 and entered traffic in May 1959 and would survive in service for approaching fifty years until withdrawn in October 2008. It was broken up by TJ Thomson, Stockton during September 2012.
