Summerlee 01

            The Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life is an interesting mix of old and new architecture, perhaps rather appropriately, given it is a modern space but one preserving the history of the area's industrial and social history. 

The original buildings were part of the Hydrocon Crane Factory, while the 22 acre site is over the old Summerlee Iron Works. The remaining buildings, which make up most of the interior exhibition halls, were part of the crane factiry, although as you can see they've not only been restored but altered (one side is mostly glass now, flooding the interior with natural light) and then had modern extensions. I have to admit I quite like the overall effect.
