Looking towards Farnborough - a photo on Flickriver

            Farnborough is the highest village in Berkshire. Its 18th century 'Old Rectory' was home to Sir John Betjeman, Poet Laureate, and his family, from 1945 to 1951.

My great uncle Cecil maintained a lengthy correspondence with Sir John and Lady Betjeman. I recall seeing some of those now long-lost letters, often conducted by all in amusing verse. I particularly remember the Betjemans' printed stationery said 'No telephone, thank God'.
