Der grüne Leguan oder auch Iguana ist ein beliebtes exotisches Haustier. Da er mit einer Rumpflänge von ca 50 cm und einer Gesamtlänge mit Schwanz recht schnell den handelsüblichen Terrarien entwächst, wird er meist dann wieder abgegeben.
In manchen Kulturen hat er eine Bedeutung als essbares Haustier und wird für diesen Zweck gezüchtet. Er firmiert unter dem Begriff " grünes Hähnchen". Ein bekanntes Leguangericht heisst "Sopa de Garrobo" ( www.elheraldo.hn/…/c%C3%B3mo-preparar-una-exquisita-… )
