Between the clouds

            This blue hour shot was unplanned - as was the whole day. I wanted to stay a night at the Refugio altavista at 3000m near the top of Pico del Teide. A few days earlier I was told to be at the cable car by 4 PM in order to easily get to the top. Arriving a 4PM on that day the cable car was closed and I had the choice of either canceling the whole trip (the Refugio has to be booked about a month in advance!) or hike the whole distance to the top. Well, is just reconsidered the amount of water and food I had with me and was hoping to do the 1800hm 5km trip in less than 3,5h hours to get a glimpse of the sunset at least.

By the time I arrived at the Refugio temperatures dropped already below 0°C with rocks getting icy and the wind was stiff. With no chance to make it to the top in time for sunset and the cloud cover getting even worse (so no astrophotography) I decided to stay there and stroll around for a while. A good decision. Later I set the alarm to 5AM in order to get to the top before sunrise but more on that later...

Anyway this photo was taken at sunset time (with the sun setting behind my back and behind the mountain) and I was struggling already to keep warm. In the lower center you can see the path I've been walking/climbing that day.
