Highlands Hammock

            Located in rural Highlands County, Highlands Hammock State Park is one of the jewels of Florida's renowned state park system.  The park was established in 1931 by locals who were concerned that the natural location would give way to farmland.  The park was one of four original state parks when Florida established its state park system in 1935.  Easy access is available throughout the park to eleven miles of hiking trail, which along with its scenic swamp views make it a destination for Florida hikers.
