Prima visione d'Italia - a photo on Flickriver

            A bittersweet post today...

This is the view that greeted us upon stepping out of our cab from Bari International Airport to Masseria Torre Coccaro. The path to the front desk is right around the corner. For her 65th birthday, my mother and I zigzagged across Italy for three weeks, beginning here by Fasano, and ending in Bellagio before flying home from Milan. I was excited, but I really had no idea or understanding of the depth in which I would fall in love with Italy, and her people - some of which I am still in contact with. Aside from a handful of black and white photos, this is the last image I will be posting on Flickr from this trip, which ended July 10th, 2022.

Looking up further information and finding exact locations to geotag (including scoping out street views as I looked for hard to identify locations) was like reliving the trip all over again for a second time, and I learned so much more than I did through one pass alone. This makes me want to revisit, that much more. To anyone who has been following along with me (in reverse) through my Italian adventure, thank you for your patience, and I hope you enjoyed it. This feels like the closing of a chapter, and new photographs from the last thirteen months are coming soon.

PS. I can still hear the warm, soft gravelly voice of the immediately charismatic head waiter at Masseria Torre Coccaro's restaurant as he'd welcome every guest to dinner... "Buonasera, buonasera." I need to save my pennies and go back.
