"Cool Copper" - Downtown Chicago - 09 Jul 2017 - 7D II - 142 copy

            There usually are a number of characters around the Metra station entrance at State & Randolph.  People who are panhandling, others hanging out on the steps of the Chicago Cultural Center that occupies that wole city block, and there's usually at least one Metra Police Officer. 

Since my vision is so bad, I usually take a closer look at a potential street phto subject as I pass by, to evaluate whether the shot's worth the effort. 

Officer Brice - according to his name tag - was standing there as he is in the photo, relaxed but vigilant, leaning against this infor board. 

I turned the corner and swung my wheelchair around and snapped the picture. As he was looking straight at me, he simply raised his right hand and saluted, without moving any of his other limbs, or changing his expression, just the right arm...

These officers are out there all the time, in ful view of the public. They are used to tourists gawking at them, probably mistaking them for Chicago Police Officers, asking them stupid questions,and taking pictures of them.

I don't have any illusion that Officer Brice was really saluting me. He'd have no reason to. I think it's just his way of dealing with the situation in a way that doesn't compromise his position. What was he rally thinking at that moment? I think I know, and you probably do too...
