Another trip back to this amazing spot in North Devon with Phill. Was reflecting on how "LightPainting" is considered as Art, even though some people feel uncomfortable calling this hobby an individual form of Photographic Art. I thought about the process involved in creating this image and the nights events as a whole and how much effort is involved to create a fairly simple image. Firstly we planned to go on this particular night as the low tide coincided with the right dark period and a new moon (so the darkest sky we could get at this time of year). On the day I drove the 3 Hrs to North Devon and met Phill. We walked a total of 8 miles that night with a lung bustingly steep climb for about a mile (worse coming back down). At the first location we had to set up our cameras, once the tide was low enough, before the darkness set in fully. Then clambering across slippery rocks in the darkness to place two orange gelled torches on light-stands just in the right places on a very unforgiving surface. Next I climbed up into the hole in the large rock outcrop and found a suitable place to stand still for 10-15 minutes at a time. During this time Phill was stood with the cameras directing where to place the lights, trying to shout over the sound of the waves was not easy and then operating the cameras and his drone with lume cubes attached (see next shot). That is ART in my book. Even if an image was not made, the process was Art in itself.
