White Throne and Company - a photo on Flickriver

This is perhaps a mile from the Temple of Sinawava at the end of Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.  The titular butte is the second formation from the right, though it doesn't seem very "white" in this shot.

When I first uploaded this, there were a lot of clouds in the sky, but after a day or so, I decided, in spite of the fact the clouds were great, that the photo was better without them, and so have, as you see, deleted them. The last paragraph, which I left as I originally wrote it, reflected my initial ambivalence about the sky. I think those clouds work better in the color version, so perhaps one day that result will find its way into my stream.

This was my second visit to the park where I spent most of two full days, as opposed to just one the previous time. For me, this is very near the top tier of our National Parks with only Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone ranking ahead of it in my book.

This is a Pano combining 10 photos using a 35mm lens. Not sure if this is the best version of this photo or not. I also did one where I imported a blue sky with virtually no clouds, turning it into a dark gray. In that version, the buttes don't have to compete with the clouds.
