Sierra Pond - a photo on Flickriver

Sierra Pond

            This is a pond that is near Ward Lake.  Ward Lake is a natural lake that is high in the Sierras near Florence Lake.  There is a campground here that I like to stay at every chance I get.  Above that campground there are a few ponds like this one that are really beautiful to visit.  On this hike I only brought my 18-140 mm lens and looked to see what I could capture.  It was a little windy on this day and I had to wait for the wind to die down to get reflection images.  The patience paid off with this shot.  

There must have been quite a storm this winter to knock over the tree in the pond.  I've been hiking around that tree for 20 years.  It used to be right on the edge of the pond next to a rock wall.  You would have to squeeze yourself between the tree and the wall to get to the other side of the pond and to continue the trail back to camp.  I was a little disappointed to see it fall over, but It did make it easier to get to the trail.
