Arenaria interpres

            Today I bring you a photo of one of those little inhabitants of our coasts, the ruddy turnstone. It is one of those birds that usually appear in Spain during their migratory journeys or in winter, although in some places they stay all year round. I was lucky enough to come across one on a pebble beach, on a grey day at low tide, while fishermen were searching for octopus among the rocks.

It is a very curious bird and quite accustomed to human presence. If you are patient and do not make any sudden movements, it may approach you looking for something to peck at. At low tide, they do not stand still, but hop from rock to rock looking for food, which makes photographing them quite a challenge.

On this occasion, I was lucky that the turnstone stopped for a moment on a rock, and the sea in the background reflected the grey sky, creating this photograph.
