Le repos du pèlerin à l’ombre du « street art »

            Varanasi (Inde) - Depuis que je photographie en Inde, avec cette photo, c’est la première fois que j’ai le sentiment d’avoir capté une trace de l’évolution du pays. Pourtant l’arrivée criarde du street art sur les ghâts ne semble pas troubler les habitudes des Indiens. Ce tag date la photo, tout au plus. Les hindous continuent à venir quotidiennement s’imprégner du Gange, comme leurs ancêtres le faisaient et comme leurs descendants le feront, aussi longtemps que l’Inde restera l’Inde. Des graffitis sur les murs, ils en voient depuis une trentaine d’années. Ils en verront d’autres qui s’altèreront avec le temps. Contrairement à la tradition, que rien ne semble pouvoir altérer.

Varanasi (India) - Since I have photographed in India, with this photo, it is the first time that I have felt that I have caught a trace of the change in the country. Yet the garish arrival of street art in the ghats does not seem to disturb the habits of the Indians. This stylized graffiti dates the photo, at most.
Hindus continue to come daily to soak in the Ganges, as their ancestors did and as their descendants will do as long as India remains India. Graffiti on the walls, they've seen it for about thirty years. They will see others that will deteriorate over time. Contrary to tradition, which nothing seems to be able to alter.
