Hercules Socks it to the Hydra - a photo on Flickriver

            Here you can see the original of the Hercules Fountain main sculpture. Like all the other original bronze sculptures of this and the other two magnificent Renaissance fountains, the Augustus Fountain and the Mercury Fountain, it is placed in an indoor location, the inner court of the Maximilianmuseum, which has a transparent roof. There the sculptures are protected against damages caused by polluted air. At the fountains you can only see copies.

These three  Late Renaissance fountains were created at the end of the 16th century by Hubert Gerhard (the Augustus Fountain) and Adriaen de Vries (the Mercury and the Hercules Fountain). They're placed on the main axis of the historical inner city of Augsburg, which is called Maximilianstraße today.
