Blea Tarn at sunset, Little Langdale, Lake District National Park, Cumbria, UK

            With its sheltered location in a hanging valley at the head of Little Langdale, and  that background, Blea Tarn is stunningly beautiful, if over-popular.
This is one of my favourite views, deceptively simple (making each element of the scene stand out from the others can be tricky) and ever-changing. On this occasion, the main attraction was the soft red wash of sunset light across the Langdale Pikes.

Thankfully, this landmark tree wasn't one of the many at Blea Tarn that were smashed or toppled during the storms of late 2021, though it may have lost branches and certainly neighbours.

Beyond the tarn is Side Pike, a kilometre away, and the head of the pass into Great Langdale. The Langdale Pikes are in the background, ~3 km away. Harrison Stickle (736 m) is the tallest, with Pavey Ark to the right and Thorn Crag/Loft Crag (682 m) to the left of Dungeon Ghyll.
