Napolitano, first Head of State to visit EP after the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty

Today the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, met the president of the European Parliament, the leaders of European political groups, Italian MEPs and staff. (Brussels 03/03/2010)

Buzek welcomed him as "a very important personality for the EU and for Parliament", recalling the work he did as an MEP and AFCO Chairman on the way to the Lisbon Treaty. "A key change in the Treaty is the co-decision powers given to the EP" said Napolitano, "now it's up to you to find original solutions to Europe's problems".
