[9a] Niagara Falls - Peering over the Edge

This spot was my favorite by far.

After patiently waiting for a little space to open up for me by the railing, I firmly planted my tripod and just... watched. It's very mesmerizing to observe the water flow smoothly over the edge right in front of you, and the roaring of the falls would add an enormity to the scene that visuals alone—it's hard to believe—could not.

I spent about three hours in this spot, noticing how the changes and the decrease in light would influence shutter speeds. It was like a very beautiful, serene study of exposure. Certainly the highlight of the entire trip.

(Manual exposure mode; slight underexposure to place visual weight on the darkness of the river, and how rapidly and violently it turns into an almost-white waterfall. I also love how smooth the water looks with a shutter speed of just half a second.)
