Fresh Snow - a photo on Flickriver

Fresh Snow

            It's been snowing here for the whole last night so right after waking up i went to our park to get a few shots before it started melting (which it does here in Germany instantly almost every time...). I was surprised that the pond was frozen, the temperatur was about +1°C.

I got another shot of this motive with the sun shining, after i completed my round through the park, but i liked this one better because of the dark clouds, which make this 3 layer composition possible.

Technique/Processing

I took 5 shots, because i was unsure of the right exposure value. I ended up using two of the shots, one with -1/3 EV for the water and the sky and another one with +8/3 EV for the rest, blended manually in Photoshop. 

Then i applied a black gradient in soft light mode to the upper part of the sky (50% opacity) and used darken/lighten center, with the center placed around the branch in front to make it a bit brighter and thus increase the depth of the photo.
