            Le musée d'art moderne André-Malraux (MuMa) est un musée des Beaux-Arts situé au Havre à l'entrée du port. Grâce à de nombreux dons, legs et achats de la ville, il possède la plus riche collection de peintures impressionnistes en province avec celle du musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen. Il est ainsi nommé en l'honneur de l'écrivain français André Malraux qui, alors ministre de la Culture, fit de ce musée un lieu d'avant-garde, le premier Musée-Maison de la culture, qu'il inaugura en 1961.
Le musée a été conçu par quatre architectes — Guy Lagneau, Michel Weill, Jean Dimitrijevic et Raymond Audigier —, en étroite collaboration avec quatre ingénieurs — Bernard Laffaille et René Sarger (pour les structures acier et béton), Jean Prouvé (pour l’emploi de l’aluminium), André Salomon (pour l’éclairage naturel et artificiel) — et avec l’artiste Henri-Georges Adam, à qui fut commandée une sculpture monumentale pour la façade de l’édifice. Flexibilité et transparence sous-tendent ce projet novateur mené par une équipe de pionniers dans leur domaine. Le musée, construit au bord de la mer à proximité d’un îlot d’habitation typique de la reconstruction menée au Havre, proclame une double rupture. Rupture avec le style de la reconstruction de la ville entreprise par Auguste Perret, mais aussi et surtout avec l’esthétique traditionnelle de ce type d’institution. 

The André-Malraux Museum of Modern Art (MuMa) is a Fine Arts museum located in Le Havre at the entrance to the port. Thanks to numerous donations, bequests and purchases from the city, it has the richest collection of impressionist paintings in the province with that of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen. It is so named in honor of the French writer André Malraux who, then Minister of Culture, made this museum an avant-garde place, the first Museum-House of Culture, which he inaugurated in 1961. .
The museum was designed by four architects — Guy Lagneau, Michel Weill, Jean Dimitrijevic and Raymond Audigier —, in close collaboration with four engineers — Bernard Laffaille and René Sarger (for the steel and concrete structures), Jean Prouvé (for the employment aluminium), André Salomon (for natural and artificial lighting) — and with the artist Henri-Georges Adam, who was commissioned to create a monumental sculpture for the building's facade. Flexibility and transparency underpin this innovative project led by a team of pioneers in their field. The museum, built by the sea near a residential island typical of the reconstruction carried out in Le Havre, proclaims a double rupture. Break with the style of the reconstruction of the city undertaken by Auguste Perret, but also and above all with the traditional aesthetics of this type of institution.
