Villa Petraia Affreschi - a photo on Flickriver

            La Villa si erge con la sua inconfondibile torre in posizione dominante sulle pendici del Monte Morello degradanti verso la piana con splendida vista su Firenze.
La Petraia è una delle più affascinanti ville medicee per la felice collocazione nel paesaggio, per l'eccellenza delle decorazioni pittoriche, per la rigogliosa natura del parco.
Dichiarata dall'UNESCO Patrimonio mondiale dell'Umanità nel 2013, distante pochi chilometri da Firenze, rifugio per i granduchi della famiglia Medici.
Un antico edificio fortificato, di cui resta ancora la grande torre, fu ingrandito verso la fine del Cinquecento 
Il cortile della villa, coperto nell'Ottocento, è decorato con affreschi del Volterrano e di Cosimo Daddi. La famosa scultura bronzea del Giambologna raffigurante Venere-Fiorenza.

The Villa stands with its unmistakable tower in a dominant position on the slopes of Monte Morello sloping towards the plain with a splendid view of Florence.
La Petraia is one of the most charming Medici villas due to its happy location in the landscape, the excellence of its pictorial decorations and the luxuriant nature of the park.
Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, just a few kilometers from Florence, a refuge for the grand dukes of the Medici family.
An ancient fortified building, of which the great tower still remains, was enlarged towards the end of the sixteenth century
The courtyard of the villa, covered in the nineteenth century, is decorated with frescoes by Volterrano and Cosimo Daddi. The famous bronze sculpture by Giambologna depicting Venus-Fiorenza.
