Heilige Schutzengel Kirche Gaukönigshofen

            Die auch als Dom vom Gau bezeichnete Kirche prägt durch ihre Lage am nordwestlichen Ortsrand das Bild des Altortes und ist weit über die Ebene des Ochsenfurter Gaues sichtbar. Der Rohbau wurde zwischen 1724 und 1730 unter Fürstbischof Christoph Franz von Hutten im Barockstil erstellt, die Pläne fertigte Balthasar Neumann; der aus Tirol stammende Baumeister Matthias Kolb, der bis dahin lediglich als Unternehmer am Bau der Residenz in Würzburg bekannt war, erstellte den Rohbau samt Turmuntergeschoss. Die Weihe der Kirche fand am 13. und 14. Mai 1730 durch den Würzburger Weihbischof Johann Bernhard Mayer statt.
