Vintage Railroad Bridge, Train Cars - a photo on Flickriver

            Ouachita River Monroe/West Monroe, LA.

This old bridge still stands and I know it's old because I recall it as a child and I'm now +80 years! The railroad was in the neighborhood where I grew up, and I could always hear the train coming. 

The Ouachita River, with the twin cities of Monroe, LA on the east side of the river and West Monroe on the west side. I'm sure the railroad has had many upgrades and repairs over these many years but it's an icon. I recall flood stages that had water up to the lower edge of the bridge. 

The Ouachita River has its start in the upper part of the state of Arkansas and continuously flows and eventually empties into the Mississippi River.
 
I grew up only a few miles away from the bridge and river on the West Monroe, LA side. 

It's been a while since I've seen this old thing but it has many memories, seeing those freight trains chug across this chunk of iron! I recall when boats were too large to go under it (when water levels were too high) and having to wait to cross it while the draw bridge was open to let the water traffic through. 

Pure luck that I captured this photo with the train cars passing through it.
