White Shinx Caterpillar, Joshua Tree N. P.

            I first saw these caterpillars in Death Valley during the Super Bloom.   We we're shooting flowers in an area full of blooms and noticed these caterpillars all over the plants.  They are ferocious eaters and can get to a pretty good size.

While driving into the East entrance to Joshua Tree N. P., we noticed all these little things crossing the road that turned out to be this caterpillar.  The road was spotted with hundreds of caterpillar suicides.  Why they think that they need to cross over on a busy road is beyond me.  The flowers on one side the the road look as good as the ones on the other.
