World Heritage: Schillerpark V - a photo on Flickriver

Siedlung Schillerpark is one of six housing estates that testify to innovative housing policies from 1910 to 1933, especially during the Weimar Republic, when the city of Berlin was particularly progressive socially, politically and culturally. The reform movement contributed to improving housing and living conditions for people with low incomes through novel approaches to town planning, architecture and garden design. The projects had considerable influence on the development of housing around the world.

The Schillerpark estate consists of 303 apartments, built in three construction phases between 1924 and 1930. All buildings were equipped with bathrooms and balconies or loggias. A shared laundry room was also built. The flat roofs were among the first in Berlin. Planner: architect Bruno Taut.
During World War II, parts of the estate were destroyed. The reconstruction in 1951 was led by Max Taut, the brother of the deceased Bruno Taut.
