Traditional houses on the Po delta, Italy

            I Casoni del delta del Po sono antiche costruzioni rurali tipiche di questa zona umida dell'Italia. In passato erano realizzati principalmente con materiali naturali come canne e legno, e servivano originariamente come rifugi per i pescatori e per chi lavorava nelle valli da pesca. Con i loro tetti spioventi e le grandi aperture, i casoni si integrano perfettamente nell'ambiente circostante, offrendo un esempio unico di architettura sostenibile e di adattamento all'ambiente palustre del delta.
Il Casone di valle, come si presenta oggi, è la derivazione in muratura, ampliata, resa più comoda e funzionale, delle antiche costruzioni.

The Casoni of the Po Delta are ancient rural constructions typical of this wetland area in Italy. They were made primarily from natural materials such as reeds and wood, and originally served as shelters for fishermen and those working in the fishing valleys. With their sloping roofs and large openings, the casoni blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment, providing a unique example of sustainable architecture and adaptation to the marshy habitat of the delta. 
The Casoni, as it appears today, is the expanded, more comfortable and functional brick derivation of the ancient buildings.
