MAYBACH SW 38 Spezial Roadster 1937

1936 wurde der Hubraum des SW 35 auf 3,8 Liter Hubraum (Reihensechszylindermotor) erhöht und dadurch zum SW 38. Diese Maßnahme diente nicht der Erhöhung der Maximalleistung von 140 PS, sondern lediglich der Beibehaltung. In den schlechten Jahren der Depression hatte nämlich die Benzinqualität nachgelassen. Die Leistung des Fahrzeugs kam von einem 3,8-Liter-Motor Für den neuen Motor wurde nur noch eine Höchstdrehzahl von 4000 U/min angegeben und die Verdichtung wurde auf 6,8:1 herabgesetzt. Am Fahrgestell änderte sich nichts Wesentliches. In den Jahren 1936 bis 1939 wurden insgesamt rund 520 Fahrzeuge des SW38 gebaut.

Hermann Spohn war ein deutscher Karosseriehersteller. Die von ihm gegründete Karosseriebaufirma wird vor allem mit ihren Fahrzeugaufbauten für Maybach-Luxusautomobile in Verbindung gebracht. 1920 wurde das Unternehmen gegründet und im Sommer 1957 geschlossen.
