Wasserschloss Glücksburg 2.0 - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Perlen des Nordens - Glücksburg, die nördlichste Stadt Deutschlands. 

Das Wasserschloss Glücksburg zählt zu den bedeutendsten Schlossanlagen in Nordeuropa und gilt als „Wiege der europäischen Königshäuser“.
In der Zeit zwischen 1582 und 1587 ließ Herzog Johann d. J. zu Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg das Wasserschloss Glücksburg auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Rudeklosters erbauen. Der nahezu quadratische Grundriss resultiert aus den drei gleich großen Einzel-häusern, die von vier Ecktürmen flankiert werden. Die offenen und mit Zinnen versehenen Türme erhielten erst später ihre Schieferdächer.

The moated castle Glücksburg is one of the most important castle complexes in Northern Europe and is considered the "cradle of European royal houses".
Between 1582 and 1587, Duke Johann the Younger of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg had the moated Glücksburg Castle built on the site of the former Rude monastery. The almost square ground plan results from the three equally sized individual houses flanked by four corner towers. The open and crenellated towers received their slate roofs only later.
