Shiva is nirguna means divine devoid of any form,personality or indeed any qualities at all.
To know Shiva is to know our true self beyond the body and mind.
Through meditation and yoga one can move to a state where we see our ego centered identity is an illusion.

SHIVA means "that which is not".
that which is his physical creation
"that which is not " is that "which is not physical"
"that which is not" where can it be - its everywhere so there is dimensionless existence and that's called "Shiva"

I am not this body and this mind. This body gathered by food that I took from this Mother earth. This mind is heap of thoughts, that I gathered from my childhood from surroundings. Who am I, Who are you ? "That which is not"

Tody Scientists are saying that nearly 99 percent of the cosmos is empty.
but empty doesn't mean there is nothing
there is something but it's not something.
If you look up in the sky you see the stars but stars are small happening the real thing is the vast emptiness
so this we refer to as "Shi Va" (that which is not).
and this vast space have a tremendous amount of energy but it is not any of the energies that are measurable by us like electromagnetic waves
but there is no denying it is tremendously powerful
so Shiva means "that which is not"
so in the lap of "that which is not" SHIVA that creation happens.

MODERN SCIENCE
Matter as we know it which is atoms,stars,galaxies,planets,trees rocks around us.
this matter accounts for less then 5% of the known universe.
about 25% is dark matter and 70% is dark energy.
both of which are invisible.
this is kind of strange because it suggests everything we experience is really only a tiny fraction of reality.
we really have no clue what dark matter and dark energy are or how they work but we are pretty sure they exists.
so what do we know.
Dark matter is the stuff that makes it possible for galaxies to exist.
When we calculated why the universe is structured the way it is
,it quickly became clear that there's not just enough normal matter.
The gravity of the visible matter is not strong enough to form
galaxies and complex structures.
the stars would more likely be scattered all over the place and not form galaxies.
so we know there is something else inside and around them.
Something that doesn't emit or reflect light
something dark
but besides being able to calculate the existence of dark matter.
we can kind of realize it where places of high concentration of dark matter bend light passing near by,
so we know there's something interacting with gravity.
Right now,we have more idea about what dark energy is not,
then what it is.
We know that dark matter is not just clouds of normal matter without stars.
because otherwise it would emit particles we could detect.
Dark matter is not anti matter because anti matter produces unique gamma rays when it reacts with normal matter.
Dark matter is not made of black holes because black holes
are very compact object that violently affect there surroundings,
while dark matter seems to be scattered all over the place.
Basically
we only know only 3 things for sure.
1. Something is out there
2. It interacts with gravity
3.There is a lot of it

Dark Energy is even more mysterious.
we can't detect,measure or taste it but we do see effects of it very clearly.
in 1929, Edward Hubble examined how the wavelength of light
emitted by distant galaxies shifts towards red end of the electromagnetic spectrum as it travels through space.
He found that fainter,more distant galaxies shows a large
degree of red shift,closer galaxies not so much.
Hubble determined this was because the universe itself is expanding.
The red shifts occurs because the wavelengths of light are stretched as the universe expands.
More recent discoveries shows that expansion of the universe is accelerating.
Before that it was thought the pull of gravity would cause the expansion to either slow down or even retract or collapse in on itself at some point.
Space doesn't change its properties as it expands,there's just more of it.
New Space is constantly created everywhere.
galaxies are tight bound clusters of stuff held together by gravity
so we don't experience this expansion in our daily lives.
but we see it everywhere around us
wherever there is empty space in the universe the more is forming every second.
so dark energy seems to be some kind of energy intrinsic to empty space.
Energy that is stronger than anything else we know
and it keeps getting stronger as time passes by.
Empty space has more energy than everything else in the universe combined.
We have multiple ideas about what dark energy might be.
One idea is Dark energy is not a thing,but just a property of space.
Empty space is not nothing ,it has its own energy
it can generate more space and is quite active.so as the universe expands,it could be that just more and more space appears to fill the gaps and this leads to faster expansion of universe.
This idea is similar to idea Einstein had back in 1917,of the concept of cosmological constant.
a force that counteracted the force of gravity.
the only problem is that when we tried to calculate the amount of this energy the result was so wrong and weird that it added to confusion.
Another idea is empty space is actually full of temporary virtual particles that spontaneously and continually form from nothing and then disappear into nothing again.
the energy from those particles could be dark energy.
or may be dark energy is an unknown kind of dynamic energy
fluid or field which permeates the entire universe but somehow has the opposite effect on universe than normal energy and matter.
but if it exists we don't know how and where we can detect it.
so there is still lots of question to answer which modern science don't have.

Adiyogi
At the same time we called Adiyogi also the Shiva
because he percieved "that which is not".
so Adiyogi is Shiva.

so out focus have always been on that dimension which is non physical that is why Shiva becames the most important thing
because Shiva means "that which is not"
that which is non physical

so there is no parentage of Shiva there is no place of birth or death.

so anything you can talk of the universe nothing is left out of him .he is so complex and so complete and
he does not have teaching only methods
scientific methods.
He gave 108 ways and added another 6 so 112 ways because there are 114 chakras in the body.
2 of them resides outside the physical body
he said that realm is only for those who are beyond
and these 112 methods you can exploit 112 dimensions of how this life is made and through each one of them you can realize
and these are compiled in a book called "Vigyan Bhairav Tantra"

Shiva

Shiva is the personification of God Head or the absolute principle.
That is why he is also worshipped in the form of Linga(Symbol)
which symbolizes the source of all cosmos. therefore it is appropriate Shiva is called Mahadev meaning Greatest of all Gods and in other words God of all Gods.

Natraj
Lord Shiva dancing form is known as Natraj. He is shown as engaged in cosmic dance.
cosmic dance is the final dance that happens at the end of dissolution of entire universe.
it is said that whole universe came from the double drum sounded by Lord Shiva.
Then Vishnu appeared from him to take care
of the creation.
The Brahma emanates from Vishnu navel to contiue the creation of rest of the worlds.
Thus it is from Shiva that all the Gods came from.
During the process of disolution, Lord Brahma merges back to Lord Vishnu and Lord Vishnu merges back into Lord Shiva thus completing the cycle.
Lord Shiva is alone without the second one during that time and found engaged in cosmic dance.
Thus in the sense of Mahadev, Lord Shiva is the primordial entity
that exists before any second thing came forth and also the final entity that shall remain after all the created worls are dissolved.

Linga
Symbolic expression of Shiva in egg like shape.
Here Lord Shiva is conceived as the cosmic womb.
the first egg (refer to as big bang theory) from which all other things sprang forth.
The word Linga is formed from two sounds namely 'Li' and 'Ga'
meaning Liyale(coming forth from it) and Gamyate(merging back
into it) respectively.

Thus Linga or the symbolic form of Lord Shiva is the primary source of everything and the final destination of anything.
Thus
Mahadev becomes expression in these lines that view Shiva as the supreme principle

Shiva

That is self-existent. That is without beginning and end.
That has no parent or master. That has no origin.
That is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent.
That is beyond name and form and beyond the five senses.
That is beyond the reach of words and thoughts.
That is beyond time, space, and causality.
That is inexhaustible, eternal, and immutable.
That is pure and bright.
That is Truth.
That is pure consciousness.
That is boundless joy.
That is both immanent and transcendent at the same time.
That is both having form and formless.
That is both personal and impersonal.
That is both the manifested and the unmanifested.
That is stationary and moving.
That is far and also very near.
That is an eternal reality.
That is the creator of time and master of Nature.
That is diversely manifesting.
That shines and everything shines after Him (sun, stars, etc).
That cannot be seen or seized.
That dwells in the hearts of all creatures as Atman.
That is the eternal witness who watches our work from within.
That is the bridge to immortality.

SHIVA resides in every heart .Pure consciousness that manifests in the heart of every being is SHIVA.

Light of Knowledge that exist in every atom of this universe is SHIVA.

SHIVA is omnipresent. Means He is all prevading. Lord Vishnu resides only in Vaikuntha . But SHIVA resides in all worlds. But SHIVA resides in all the worlds limitlessly.

You are conscious only till SHIVA is in your heart, .When SHIVA disappears, you become a corpse.

God is Parbramha (परब्रम्हा) The one who is beyond everything and is infinite.

As supreme God can't be defined as male or female. Lord Shiva represents male counterpart of universe. HE is the Adi-Purush (आदिपुरुष) and along with Adi-Shakti (आदिशक्ति) has formed everything.

However, Lord Shiva is regarded as God of Gods often called Mahadev (महादेव) and is very close form Supreme God.

Lord Shiva is praised as Nirankar (निरंकार), Nirakaar (निराकार) and Nirgun (निर्गुण) which essentially means Formless, Shapeless and the one who can't be characterized.

Brahman= Bramha (The creator) + Vishnu (The preserver) + Shiva (The destroyer)
But what happens after it is all destroyed? A new cycle of creation begins. And it begins from Shiva. So Shiva is also known as Sada-Shiv (An eternal being). Shiva is the consciousness of time and eternal cycle and he is the seed of creation. And Shakti (Divine mother and female consort of Shiva) is the energy that makes creation possible. Shiva is the library of knowledge about everything, and Shakti is everything.

With his neck consecrated by the flow of water that flows from his hair,
And on his neck a snake, which is hung like a garland,
And the Damaru drum that emits the sound “Damat Damat Damat Damat”,
Lord Shiva did the auspicious dance of Tandava. May he give prosperity to all of us.

I have a deep interest in Shiva

Who destroyed the bonds of worldly life, who destroyed the sacrifice,
Who destroyed the demon Andhaka, who is the destroyer of the elephants,
And who has overwhelmed the God of death, Yama.

Shiva, whose dance of Tandava is in tune with the series of loud
sounds of drum making the sound “Dhimid Dhimid”,
Who has fire on his great forehead, the fire that is spreading out because of the
breath of the snake, wandering in whirling motions in the glorious sky.

Drushadvichitratalpayor bhujanga mauktikasrajor
Garishtharatnaloshthayoh suhrudvipakshapakshayoh
Trushnaravindachakshushoh prajamahimahendrayoh
Sama pravartayanmanah kada sadashivam bhaje

When will I be able to worship Lord Sadashiva, the eternally auspicious God,
With equanimous vision towards people or emperors,
Towards a blade of grass and a lotus, towards friends and enemies,
Towards the most precious gem and a lump of dirt,
Toward a snake or a garland and towards the varied forms of the world?

Kada nilimpanirjhari nikujnjakotare vasanh
Vimuktadurmatih sada shirah sthamajnjalim vahanh
Vimuktalolalochano lalamabhalalagnakah
Shiveti mantramuchcharan sada sukhi bhavamyaham

When I can be happy, living in a cave near the celestial river Ganga,
Bringing my hands clasped on my head all the time,
With my impure thoughts washed away, uttering the mantra of Shiva,
Devoted to the God with a glorious forehead and with vibrant eyes?

Imam hi nityameva muktamuttamottamam stavam
Pathansmaran bruvannaro vishuddhimeti santatam
Hare gurau subhaktimashu yati nanyatha gatim
Vimohanam hi dehinam sushankarasya chintanam

Anyone who reads, remembers and recites this stotra as stated here
Is purified forever and obtains devotion in the great Guru Shiva.
For this devotion, there is no other way or refuge.
Just the mere thought of Shiva removes the delusion.

TRINITY GOD:
Lord Shiva is one of the trinity god who holds the major responsibility of destroying the universe. Trinity Gods are the energies of OM (ॐ) which is made up of three and half sounds – ‘Aa‘, ‘Oo‘, ‘M‘ and Silence. ‘Aa’ signifies Brahma and its chant vibrates our lower abdomen part of body. Similarly, ‘Oo’ signifies Vishnu and ‘M’ signifies Mahesha.

The half sound signifies silence or nothing or zero or peace. The combine energies of Trinity Gods lies in this silence. The whole universe resides in OM (What is OM?)

When there was nothing, only silence exists and from this silence or ParBrahma, Sada Shiva and Adi Shakti got created. They further divided into Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh and Saraswati, Lakshmi, Shakti.

NIRGUNA

Shiva is not someone who you can contain within boundaries of characteristics. He is everywhere and in everything. The energy which drives us is him. The knowledge we possess is him. The cleverness is him and the innocence too.

What is the lowest number in your opinion? Is it 0 or -infinity? What is the extent of -infinity? You can’t define it because there always exists a number lower than lowest. This extreme smallest and lowest is Shiva which is indefinite.

Similarly the highest is him. The universe is ever expanding and you can’t reach the end of it. Science proved it that universe expands all the time and Shiva contains this universe.

A seed gives birth to a plant which gives birth to several seeds. But what came first, seed or plant? Neither seed can contain plant nor plant can contain seed. Nature gave shape to all these things and this nature is the consort of Shiva which we call Adi Shakti. It is his female element.

The one who has no name, no class, no figure, no knowledge, no caste, no parents, no desires, no expectation, no cleverness, no foolishness is Shiva.

He is Nirguna i.e. without any quality while on the other hand he is Sagun too, i.e. full of qualities. From emptiness to completeness, everything is him.

There is nothing absolute or perfect or complete or un-containable. A house is in a street which is in a city which is in a state which is in a country which is in world which is in solar system which is in galaxy which is in universe which is in… well, we don’t know.

We are a tiny part of Shiva and inside us the whole Shiva exists.

With our rational and logical thinking, we keep seeking answers about our curiosity and will unfold many truths and will put stamp of accurateness on the theories of our great epics and Vedas. But new questions will arise and this process will never stop. For those questions, we won’t be able to find answers, we will call them mystery and raise fingers on the answers provided by our epics. We will call this process a modern world thinking or logical thinking or Scientific thinking or non blind thinking. But in the end, we can’t find the answer of ‘Nothing’.

APPEARANCE OF LORD SHIVA:

Lord Shiva meditates at funeral sites with the necklet of skulls after covering body with ash. That’s why He is known as Shamshanvasneya. There are series of Rudraksha beads on his neck and arms. He wears tiger and elephant skins to cover His body.

His hairs are long and in the form of jute and crest. River Ganga and Moon, resides on them. There are three horizontal parallel lines on his forehead and a third eye in between two eyes. His neck is blue and there are finger prints on it. A poisonous snake, Vasuki, is wrapped around His neck.
He holds a trident and a damru (an hourglass shaped musical instrument). A bull, Nandi, is His mount and He remains surrounded with goblins, ghosts, ghouls, sages and aghoris. His abode is in Kailash and His favorite city is Kashi.

BHOLENATH :

WHY HE IS SO GULLIBLE?

We call him, Bhola (gullible) because He is free from procedures and methods. You can please Him in any way you want and there is no particular way of worshiping. You just need to love Him and show your devotion.

He pleases very easily and grants all the wishes which Vishnu or Brahma might not. He doesn’t care about outcomes because He is beyond them.

GOD OF DESTRUCTION:
With great power comes great responsibilities and Shiva, Himself, signifies power. He is the God of destruction but it doesn’t mean that He kills.

He destroys anger, arrogance, pride, materialistic desires, stress, hatred, lust, greed, competitiveness, expectations, ambitions and all those things which are the sources of pain and troubles.

He destroys the world when it needs to end the era, but in that case too he protects the city of Kashi by holding it on his trident and later place it back in new world. Even in holocaust, Kashi remains safe.

The power of destruction should be in the hands of someone who is extremely patient. Shiva is gullible because he can’t get angry easily otherwise the world would destroy before reaching its defined lifespan.

The extreme patience of Shiva makes him the God of Destruction. He has no fear of disrespect or endearment of praise.

Family
In reality, the whole universe is the family of Lord Shiva. He resides in everybody and in everything.
But as a physical family, He lives with His wife Parvati and children Ganesha, Kartikeya and Ashok Sundari. His mount Nandi is also like His son and a crucial part of His family.

Lord sadashiva the prambrahm(The universal lord,the supreme god,source of everything) who has no form or shape just an infinite energy and consciousness divided in two forms male form(lord shiva) and female form
(Maa adisakti). But they are inseparable because of their eternal love ,,note : physical separation is different (because they have to show leelas) but their soul are inseparable.

Shiv created lord vishnu and lord vishnu created lord bhrahma.Shiva created vishnu first and his love for vishnu is unconditional and infinite and vice versa. That's why if u r shivabhakt u shouldn't hate vishnuji but love vishnuji and vice versa. Because bhakt should love the one who loves their deity and whom their deity love.Shiva gave all powers to vishnuji but still shiva is superior. Both have infinite strength though.

Mata adisakti (devi durga ma) created mata lakshmi and mata saraswati with her own some set of qualities like wealth and knowledge respectively. That's why mata lakshmi is known as goddess of wealth and mata saraswati is goddess of knowledge. But mata adisakti joined herself(exactly her full form) with her beloved consort lord shiva as mata parvati/sati/durga. She has all qualities of devi lakshmi,, and saraswati and devi kaali is inside her(her angry avatar)
That's why maa durga is called as Mahalakshmi and mahasaraswati and maha kali. Because she is complete goddess.She is mother of all and shivji is father of all.
And couples are made to run the universe efficiently.

And the supreme couple GauriShankar.

Actually maa durga maiyya(devi adisakti maa) is the mother of everything in this universe whose consort is lord shiva. And she and shiva are inseparable. GauriShankar is the most pious couple ,the most eternal couple,the most ideal couple in this universe.
