            El así llamado “patio de las doncellas” es el primer patio en el famoso conjuntoarquitectónico del “palacio de Pedro I”, implicado como uno de los monumentos
individuales más notables en el Real Alcázar de Sevilla. Esta residencia real, entre todaslas que han sido mantenidas en España, destaca por la gran variedad de estilos artísticosy reflejos de épocas culturales tanto como de niveles y evoluciones de la construcción.Los edificios y patios ofrecen una mirada diversificada a palacios y jardines, patios ycolumnas. El patio de las doncellas cumple todas estas características.
El rey don Pedro I, también conocido como “El Cruel” o “El Justiciero” le dedicaba
mucha atención a la ciudad de Sevilla, coronando ésta con la construcción de su palaciodentro de las murallas del Alcázar poco más que cien años después de la reconquista dela ciudad por Fernando III. El palacio fue levantado entre los años 1356 y 1366 sin quelas obras fuesen declaradas concluídas en ningún momento. Así que se añadió la cúpuladel Salón de los Embajadores en el siglo XV. Se accede al palacio tras la puertacristiana del León y después de atravesar el patio de Montería antepuestos al edificio.
