L'avantage de travailler pour la coopérative des Dhobi-Wallah, est que la charge de travail affectée par le contremaître -fonction remplie à tour de rôle -, tient compte de l'âge et de l'état de santé des membres. A Fort-Cochin la communauté à même un caisse de solidarité pour ceux qui ne peuvent pas travailler momentanément. Mais pas de caisse de retraite.
