Ultime rayon de soleil sur Mamallapuram

            Mamallapuram (Inde) - Fin de journée. J’ai passé une heure à photographier les pêcheurs qui viennent de terminer leur marée. Beaucoup de choses intéressantes autour de ces hommes de la mer. Pourtant, je ne suis pas satisfait. L’écran de contrôle de mon boîtier confirme ce sentiment. Je n’ai pas LA photo qui résume à elle seule, l’ambiance du moment. Tout ce que j’ai enregistré sur ma carte mémoire est  honorable et publiable, d’autant que la lumière était généreuse. J’ai malgré tout l’impression d’un rendez-vous raté. 
Le soleil darde ses derniers rayons. La lumière se fait plus douce et dans quelques minutes elle aura disparu. Je décide de retourner à mon hôtel, puisque la plupart des pêcheurs ont terminé de ranger leurs filets. 
On longeant la plage, j’aperçois soudain, à 200 m, une dernière embarcation qui vient de s’échouer sur le sable. Les hommes encore à bord on l’air très actifs. De plus, la marée est désormais haute, ce qui donne une ambiance particulière. Après quelques secondes d’hésitation en regardant le soleil qui s’enfonce déjà derrière la ligne d’horizon, je tente le tout pour le tout et m’élance en courant. Je n’ai pas beaucoup de temps. 
J’y suis. Je me place face à la mer pour qu’elle s’intègre dans l’image. Je vise, je cadre, mais je ne déclenche pas. J’attends. J’attends qu’il se passe quelques chose. Sinon, pourquoi faire une image de plus ? Je trouve que la scène qui se déroule à travers mon viseur a un petit côté « Radeau de la méduse ». L’homme sur la gauche est très actif et se bat avec un filet récalcitrant. Je me concentre sur lui. Bien m’en a pris. Il lance son outil de travail qu’il vient de vaincre afin de le poser à plat. Quand le mouvement est à son apogée, je déclenche. Une fois. J’étais tellement concentré sur le mouvement que je n’ai même pas vu que l’homme au premier plan me regardait. Posait-il ? Je ne le saurai jamais. Ce que je sais en revanche, c’est que j’ai ma photo. Il était temps.

Last ray of sunshine on Mamallapuram

Mamallapuram (India) - End of the day. I spent an hour photographing the fishermen who have just finished their trip. Lots of interesting things about these men of the sea. Still, I am not satisfied. The control screen of my box confirms this feeling. I don't have THE photo that sums up the mood of the moment. Everything I have recorded on my memory card is honorable and publishable, as long as the light was generous. I still feel like a missed date.
The sun darts its last rays. The light is softer and in a few minutes it will be gone. I decide to go back to my hotel, since most of the fishermen have finished putting away their nets.

As I walked along the beach, I suddenly saw, two hundred meters away, a last boat which had just run aground on the sand. The men still on board seem very active. In addition, the tide is now high, which gives a special atmosphere. After a few seconds of hesitation, looking at the sun which is already sinking behind the horizon line, I go all out and take a run. I do not have a lot of time.
I stand facing the sea so that it blends into the picture. I aim, I frame, but I do not trigger. I wait. I'm waiting for something to happen. Otherwise, why make one more image? I find that the scene that unfolds through my viewfinder has a little “Raft of the Medusa” side to it. The man on the left is very active and is fighting with a recalcitrant net. I focus on him. Although took me. He throws his work tool which he has just defeated in order to lay it flat. When the movement is at its peak, I fire. Once. I was so focused on the movement that I didn't even see the man in the foreground looking at me. Was he posing? I'll never know. What I do know, however, is that I have my picture. It was about time.
