My Wife and Dear Visitors - a photo on Flickriver

            Lihua with my stepdaughter Xixi, whom I emotionally adopted as a real daughter years ago, and my step-granddaughter Puding, whom I have only just gotten to know but who has really grown on me. 

During our table conversations at this restaurant, we talked about my work, among other things, as the three of them had picked me up from work earlier. I'm a teacher of German as a foreign language. When they asked where my students came from, I answered, at the moment mainly from Syria, but also from Ukraine. I don't like Ukraine, my little step-granddaughter said then quite spontaneously. 

That's when I realized, or rather was reminded, which way the wind is blowing in China. I just said Ukraine is good and changed the subject. For there are taboo subjects between us, and that's a great pity. 

But what is incomparably more a pity is that I won't see them again for several years, or ever.
