Before the Match

Before every FC Augsburg home game, a flag-waving children's parade marches around the pitch to the sounds of the FCA anthem. This anthem is so heartbreakingly naïve and cheesy that every time I hear it on TV abroad, I am struck by an extremely violent attack of homesickness. Fortunately, I had the chance to sing along at the top of my lungs again last Friday.

If you look closer with the magnifying glass, you can see pine cones ("Zirbelnüsse") on some of the flags that the children are waving. They are a relic of Roman times and part of the Augsburg coat of arms and the FCA logo.
