Bacterial mats, water and sunshine - a photo on Flickriver

Multi-hued bacteria and algae thrive in the steaming hot waters of Porcelain Basin.  Taken at Norris Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.

I'm totally fascinated by the patterns that sunlight makes on and in moving water and it's especially exciting for me when the colours beneath the water are as arresting as these.  Feels somehow jewel-like to me, more so where the water is forced to move around small obstacles like pebbles.
