Southern Clam Shell - a photo on Flickriver

This fungi caught my eye. At first I was not sure if it was fungi or wood and part of the tree. Found out that it was a plant pathogen that causes white rot of heartwood of hardwoods. So apparently that tree was not doing too well, there were several of them on it in various places.
