Iran Esfahan Chehel Sotun _DSC7199 - a photo on Flickriver

View of Chehel Sotun, the Palace of Forty Columns. Visible here are the 18 columns that hold up the outer terrace roof, plus the two that flank the hall of mirrors further back. The reflection pool is responsible for adding the 'other' twenty columns that make the magic forty. Each column was carved from a single tree, and is said to have been lined with mirrors to create the illusion of a floating terrace roof. The terrace roof has wonderful detailing underneath.
