The Predator - a photo on Flickriver

The Predator

            Warning: it's not always pleasant photographing wildlife and nature. Sometimes it's shocking and heartbreaking. The circle of life goes on. As I took this photo, I saw another smaller Great Horned Owl in the same tree. I assume it was an offspring as I don't know that mates share their food, but I could be wrong. It seems that Great Horned Owls do prey on Barn Owls. After taking some photos, I did move on to allow the hunters to eat. It should be noted that Barn Owls are threatened here and so much of the territory for raptors has been lost to highways, greenhouses, malls and development in the last 2 years. Competition for food and territory is taking a toll on them.
