Kneiphof Island_285 - a photo on Flickriver

            Kneiphof Island, known nowadays as Kant Island, is one of the island parts of the city of Koenigsberg, now called Kaliningrad. Kneiphof is located in the center of the city, in the middle of the Pregolya River, at the intersection of two historical regions - Sambia and Natangia. The main Kaliningrad transport highway - Leninsky Prospekt - passes through the island from north to south.
In the 1970s, an arboretum and a sculpture park were laid on Kneiphof. Nowadays, the only building on the island is a large cathedral. It is known that before the terrible bombing of 1944, there was a whole residential area on Kneiphof, which had 28 streets with a tram moving along them, 304 houses, one town hall and one cathedral.

Остров Кнайпхоф, известный в наше время как остров Канта, - это одна из островных частей города Кёнигсберга, ныне именуемого Калининградом. Кнайпхоф находится в центре города, посреди реки Преголя, на месте пересечения двух исторических областей — Самбии и Натангии. Через остров с севера на юг проходит основная транспортная магистраль Калининграда – Ленинский проспект.
В 1970-х годах на Кнайпхофе был заложен дендропарк и парк скульптур. В наши дни единственное строение на острове – это большой Кафедральный Собор. Известно, что до страшной бомбежки 1944 года на Кнайпхофе находился целый жилой район, который имел 28 улиц с передвигающимся по них трамваем, 304 дома, одну ратушу и один собор.
