            2014 Creek Indian Art Show awards ceremony had several categories of artwork on display from adult and youth division, with ribbons and cash awards from the Poarch Band of Creek Indian Reservation, near Atmore, Alabama, in rural Escambia County, on April 2, 2014. 2013-2014 Junior Princess Breanna Hall and Elementary Princess Sydney Lisenby presented to the awards. U.S. Department of Agriculture has had a long history of successful program support of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, that have enabled them to focus on their cultural heritage and traditions. The Poarch Creek Indians are descendants of a segment of the original Creek Nation, which once covered almost all of Alabama and Georgia. Unlike many eastern Indian tribes, the Poarch Creeks were not removed from their tribal lands and have lived together for almost 200 years in and around the reservation in Poarch, Alabama. The Poarch Band of Creek Indians is the only federally recognized Indian Tribe in the state of Alabama, operating as a sovereign nation with its own system of government and bylaws.
