The Last Samurai died here - Kagoshima, Japan

            General Saigo was beheaded here, at the marker under the tree, on September 24th, 1877.  He was "the last Samurai" to die, ending the Seinan Civil War and continuing the Meiji Restoration.  I had looked ALL OVER Kagoshima to find this monument, but many of the signs had been taken down due to the construction being done to upgrade the site.  There you go:  I just made it easy for you!
