Getting closer, Explored - a photo on Flickriver

            As we drive the foothills of the Spanish Peaks, the East Peak is getting closer. The Summit is about 10 miles from here. Following a series of dirt roads, you can drive partially up the mountain side. then you would have to hike the remaining way on foot. There is an old Boy Scout camp near the end of the road. The West Spanish Peak Elevation is 13,626 feet (4,153 meters) The East Spanish Peak is 12,683 feet. There can be a 40 deg drop in temperature at the top. Another interesting fact is, the way the Sun falls on the mountain at the top it can be relatively warm on the West side of the trees, and at the same time the East side of the same trees are covered with ice and snow.
