Spot-Billed Pelican in flight - a photo on Flickriver

            Clicked this Spot-Billed Pelican on the hunt while boating at the famous Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. Look closely to see the pelican's second eyelid, i.e. the nictitating membrane. This membrane acts like a protective visor, shielding the eye from water, debris, and strong sunlight while allowing the bird to see, which is especially useful for pelicans while hunting.
