Fritillary at Arnside Knott - a photo on Flickriver

            The hill above Arnside, together with neighbouring areas of limestone pavements and hillsides, is an important area for butterflies. On a short visit many fritillaries were seen, only one paused for a photograph, and then not with a view of the underwing, which would have confirmed the species. I think this is more likely to be a dark green fritillary, fairly widespread, rather than a high brown fritillary, one of the UK's rarer species found only in a few locations across the UK.
