Terrific Terranova di Pollino Nocturnal

            A Pit 'di Terranova di Pollino is one of the eight Lucanian tree rituals that have been renewed for centuries between the Regional Park of Gallipoli Cognato and the Pollino National Park, between the sacred and the profane.

Unlike the others, that of Terranova di Pollino does not celebrate the "wedding among the trees", while remaining faithful to the script during the cutting of the tree in the days preceding the party.

This extraordinary ancestral ritual coincides with the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, on June 13th, the day when the fir-raising and the ascent of the "a pit", and culminates with the procession in honor. of the saint.

In the days before the tree is cut, in the locality of Cugno dell'Acero, and the shoulder transport by the local men begins.
