Killdeer | Charadrius vociferus | Pluvier kildir

            An unexpected find early in the morning on December 28 in Waterton Lakes National Park. This bird should have already headed towards warmth, west to the Pacific coast or south. It was flying and calling strongly, and finding food in the still unfrozen water, but cold, cold weather is coming. You can see ice is forming on its feathers - around its bill and belly.
