2305_4542 Ruddy Duck - a photo on Flickriver

            The courtship display of the male Ruddy Duck involves rapidly beating its blue bill against its breast feathers at water level, to produce bubbles. Evidently no female can resist a great bubble display. 

I would have preferred a slightly lower POV, but the blind at Frank Lake is built out over the water, and the viewing windows entail looking down at an angle. I did try sitting low on the boardwalk leading to the blind, and I did capture this behaviour at eye level - but the light wasn't good. When the light improved, the ducks were elsewhere. So it goes. 

I had two productive sessions at this location, one evening shoot and another the next morning. It was my third visit here, and I have not been disappointed yet.
