COPAN STELA N, the Upper two-thirds of the EAST SIDE, dedicated in AD 761, still displays its magnificently carved hieroglyphs and other features at the base of the northern stairway of Copán Temple 11 at the Copán Mayan Ruins in northern Honduras. Stela N displays two portraits of Smoke Shell, also known as K'ak Yipyaj Chan K'awill, one on the north face and one on the south face of the stela. Smoke Shell assumed his role as the 15th Ruler of Copán on February 14, 749.

The east side of Stela N displays Mayan stone carving that is as good as it gets. There is a single file vertical column of magnificently preserved, deeply carved hieroglyphics. On either side of the glyphs is amazingly fine sculpture including the portrayal of a caiman head (center right). The carving of Stela N goes deep into the stone in many places on all of its sides. It is masterpiece of the Copán Ruins.
