QUIRIGUA ZOOMORPH P, one of the wonders to be found at the Quirigua Mayan Ruins in eastern Guatemala, is a huge sandstone boulder that was carved by Mayan sculptors more than 1,200 years ago. The Quirigua Mayan Ruins are located near the banks of the Río Motagua in the eastern lowlands of Guatemala. Flowing over the rounded surface of the Mayan Zoomorph P are images carved with incredible detail, imagination and artistic skill.

This view of the south side of the huge Mayan stone sculpture known as Quiriguá Zoomorph P shows the Principal Mayan Bird Deity. Zoomorph P represents the Mayan Cosmic Monster made up of of a combination Mayan Crocodile Monster and Mayan Mountain Monster.

Zoomorph P was discovered by Frederick Catherwood in 1840. Zoomorph P is a huge stone sculpture standing a little over 7 feet tall. Zoomorph P is 10 feet long and 11.5 feet wide and rests upon 3 large stone slabs.

Zoomorph P was dedicated by the Quiriguá King Sky Xul on September 15, 795.
