Heather in Cwm Idwal, Eryri National Park, Gwynedd, UK

            It's easy to see why this beautiful bowl in the mountains is one of Eryri (Snowdonia)'s main attractions, drawing tourists circumnavigating Llyn Idwal (or just taking in the views), walkers/climbers exploring the National Park's core hills, and geologists/botanists studying the location's 'textbook' features (including a certain C.Darwin).

The paler bare slope is the Idwal Slabs at the foot of Glyder Fawr (1,001 m, almost visible at the top left of the image). To the immediate left of the Slabs is Cwm Cneifion, a glacial hanging valley and tributary of Cwm Idwal. Bizarrely, Cwm Cneifion is known as 'The Nameless Cwm' in English, despite very obviously having a name.

The darker cliff to the right of the Slabs is Clogwyn y Geifr, the sheer headwall of Cwm Idwal. It's famously split by the ominous notch of Twll Du, but just to be clear: the feature visible at the upper right isn't it; it's off the edge of the image.
